It all started with a Facebook competition, we asked people to vote on their local team and who ever had the most votes would become our representatives in the upcoming Challenge Match against McConnells.
The contest took off and the response from people was immense with over 1500 people voting by the end of the competition. Glenworth ploughed on ahead of all the other clubs with Glen Rovers just behind them.
The last day saw a huge surge by Glen Rovers and it did just enough to get them ahead by the deadline. In the end it was just 15 votes between them.
Just before the match a special training session took place with each team. Provided with their new Jerseys with their County's colour for them to play in and keep after, Cork Captain Stephen McDonnell and Waterford Hurler Noel Connors took each team for a quick warm up followed by a skills session to develop their skill set and to give the young lads some insight into the skills of a Senior Hurler.
The match took place in excellent weather on Saturday 28th in Fraher Field, Dungarvan. There were many stand-out players on both teams but In the end it was Glen Rovers that came out on top. Each player was given a medal to commemorate their participation in the event.
This excellent video showcases the event for us and how much fun the young lads had at the event. Special thanks to Stephen McDonnell and Noel Connors for helping us out for the day as well as Glen Rovers GAA and St.Olivers GAA who participated in the event. We look forward to doing it again next year and keeping our title as the Inter County Hurling Challenge Match Champions.
